ASK THE VET: PETS AND KIDS, KIDS AND PETS

WITH Dr. Alanna CHESNEY-MANZ

During this workshop, Dr Chesney-Manz will discuss how to foster a safe and healthy relationship between pets and children. From tips on adding a baby to a home with pets and vice versa - to adopting a pet when the kids are toddlers + up. Topics covered will include baby items that can be dangerous/toxic to pets, dog/cat diseases that can be dangerous to children, preventing dog bites, and strengthening the human-animal bond especially in times of stress.  There will be time for individualized Q&A.

ABOUT:

Dr Chesney-Manz is a veterinarian of over 12 years and mom of Teddy (7), Henry (5) and their dog, Ewok (1). She graduated from Cornell College of Veterinary Medicine and focuses her Jersey City practice on wellness as well as urgent care of dogs and cats.  She is trained in acupuncture and enjoys incorporating holistic medicine into her practice.  During the school year, she teaches a Veterinary medicine class to second graders at the American Museum of Natural History.  When she is not at work, she is chasing Teddy, Henry and Ewok around Battery Park.

She feels that the human-animal bond is so important for children and aims to make the transition to pet parents as smooth as possible for her clients.
