Fall 2019

HRP Mamas Parent + Child Playdates in partnership with local preschools are an opportunity to foster community with fellow HRP Mamas parents and make new friendships, while exploring a variety of preschools - and educational philosophies - in Lower Manhattan.

HRP Mamas Parent + Child PlayDATE at tribeca community School

Through a 60-minute “mini-day” classroom experience, we will promote understanding of the Reggio Emilia approach to early childhood education at TriBeCa community school.
Parents will observe, interact, and explore the classroom environment, which will be set up as a 2s class during a typical day of the school year. There will be provocations to draw children into exploring the different areas of the classroom: In the mini-atelier there will be a simple but engaging art invitation (crayons and paper, paint at an easel, etc.). The light table will be set up for light and shadow play with a variety of translucent, attractive materials for exploration. There will be puzzles, train tracks, and manipulatives on the meeting rug, a sensory table with sand or water. There will also be books on display near a comfy sofa and a dramatic play kitchen area.

Parents will be free to explore the room with their children as teachers float around, interacting with the children and engaging in conversations about the classroom with the parents. At the end of the session we’ll have a “clean-up time” and everyone will gather together on the rug. We will sing a few songs together, read a short story, and then conclude the session with a goodbye song. The program director, education director, atelierista, and teachers will be available to answer questions before, during, and after the session as well.
