RAISING INDEPENDENT AND RESILIENT CHILDREN
Choices, limits, and tips for helping children in a complicated world

With Tovah P. Klein PhD, Author of "How Toddlers Thrive" and Director of the Barnard College Center for Toddler Development

Dr. Tovah Klein, author of "How Toddlers Thrive" and Director of the Barnard Center for Toddler Development, will discuss the foundations that are developed in the first five years of childhood that set the path for your child's gradually increasing independence. From setting limits and boundaries to helping your child handle emotional upset and ups and downs, she will discuss what is happening developmentally and why what parents do NOW is so important for helping your child become confident, resilient and independent in their lives (hint: it is a long pathway that takes time). With helpful tips, and understanding your child's point of view, you will be able to enjoy them more and create a path for your child to become responsible and independent as they grow up and able to handle life's ups and downs.

All of these questions relate to a child becoming their own person:

• How do I get my child to dress himself?
• How do I help her learn to take responsibility?
• My child lies, what does this mean?
• Why so many control battles?
• How do I help my child not fall apart when he loses?

Tovah P. Klein, PhD is the author of How Toddlers Thrive and Director of the Barnard College Center for Toddler Development; Associate Professor of Psychology.
